Van Gogh, Dali and Beyond: The World Reimagined

Vincent van Gogh - The Starry Night (MoMA)

Seeing my favourite painting by any artist (ever!) last year in New York (above) was such an overwhelming experience for me. I’ve loved the work of Vincent van Gogh ever since I was introduced to ‘The Starry Night’ in Grade 7 Art and our assignment was to recreate the artwork with a different medium. I’ve truly been an avid lover of the man’s work ever since but the above painting is my personal favourite.

The feeling of seeing your favourite painting in person is one that is both indescribable and unimaginable.

For those who aren’t residing in New York or aren’t planning to visit any time soon, you now have the opportunity to see the work of van Gogh, and other reputable artists like Dali, Picasso, Cézanne, Wesselman, Kahlo, Richter and more; as they will be making their way a little closer to home, but will still be a plane trip away in Perth, Australia.

“This exhibition of 134 works by 96 presents three of the most fundamental artistic genres which link and transcend the ‘isms’ of twentieth century art, from Impressionism, Cubism, Surrealism and beyond to the art of today.

This selection of iconic works promises to be a visually stunning array of outstanding works by van Gogh, Picasso, Cézanne, Wesselman, Kahlo, Richter and more.

Many of the most important artists of the 20th century will be represented, with works that reinvented Landscape, Still Life and Portraiture in their time.”

Held at the Art Gallery of Western Australia, the exhibition kicks off 22nd June and will be there until 2nd December.

So the final question is, who wants to take a little trip with me to the Art Gallery of WA?

Tickets can be purchased here.
