Nike has taken a cue from the fashion world, taking the statement colour that is still popping on the runway and in the streets by choosing to design their 2018 Australian Open kits in the predominant colourway [of] different shades of PINK.
NikeCourt’s Melbourne collection will be sported by athletes such as Elina Svitolina, Frances Tiafoe, Nick Kyrgios and Madison Keys, throughout the next two weeks on Melbourne’s blue courts.
“The challenge of designing for a quick impression is creating a simple, but instantly recognizable and bold design,” shares Sam Shipley, Apparel Design Director for NikeCourt.
“We utilized dynamic geometric shape and flooded colour to grab the viewer’s attention.
With that in mind, Shipley chose pink for Melbourne, “We worked closely with the color team on finding the best shades for the most impactful read off the incredible blue courts. We wanted something that vibrates when you see it on screen,” says Shipley.
Look out for the pink kits on all NikeCourt athletes, including world #4 Elina Svitolina, rising star Frances Tiafoe, the dynamic Nick Kyrgios and hard-hitting American Madison Keys, throughout the next two weeks on Melbourne’s blue courts.
Speaking about the Air Zoom Vapor X, young gun Madison Keys had this to say:
I love the shoe – It’s super light-weight and I feel very comfortable when changing direction. But, I especially love the colours. I get to wear the black and the red ones. I’m very excited about them, I’ve gotten lots of compliments. I’m really excited to walk out for my first match in them.
