We Were Not Ready for Solange’s Self-Directed Video Of ‘Almeda’

When Solange surprised us with a new record full of 19 tracks last weekend, the internet went crazy. We all went crazy. Didn’t you?

This week, the eclectic individual that is Solange released the self-directed visuals to her first single from “When I Get Home.”

From the chopped & screwed legacy of Houston hip-hop sloth DJ Screw, to Voodoo, to Ney, to Cindy Sherman and Matthew Barney, Solange fuses together a whole host of cultural references in her single, ‘Almeda.’ The Dream and Playboi Carti also add their spices and seasoning to this heady but oh-so-nourishing brew.

To top it all off, Pharrell’s production stays light without losing its essential edge, his thumbprint on the past still visible after all these years.

Solange‘s music videos are always so captivating and this new one for ‘Almeda’ is no exception.

We. Just. Can’t. Get. Enough!
